INTRODUCCIÓN

El paro cardíaco intraoperatorio es una de las paradojas más incómodas de la anestesiología: ocurre frente a nosotros, con monitores encendidos, vía aérea asegurada y fármacos al alcance; aun así, el equipo puede llegar tarde si no comparte un lenguaje operativo común. La cadena de supervivencia nació para explicar que la supervivencia no depende de una maniobra aislada, sino de una secuencia de acciones interdependientes, y las guías contemporáneas la han expandido hasta prevención, preparación, resucitación efectiva, cuidados postparo y recuperación. El problema es que esa cadena se describió primero para la comunidad y luego para el hospital en general; el quirófano pasó años usando algoritmos correctos, pero un guion prestado.
