RESUMEN

Introducción: en esta segunda parte, se exponen la fisiopatología, el diagnóstico y el tratamiento de las infecciones crónicas y de compartimentos profundos de la mano encontradas con mayor frecuencia en la práctica clínica. Desarrollo: en la literatura se han descrito decenas de microorganismos causales y cientos de reportes de casos que involucran bacterias, virus y micobacterias. Este artículo de revisión sintetiza las presentaciones clínicas y los patógenos más relevantes a los que se enfrentan cotidianamente los cirujanos ortopedistas y de mano. Conclusión: revisar la totalidad de las causas posibles de infecciones crónicas en la mano, excede el alcance de este documento; por lo tanto, si el lector requiere profundizar en el tema, se sugiere realizar una revisión bibliográfica extensiva en enfermedades infecciosas y cirugía especializada de mano.
