Introducción y limitaciones de
la serología convencional
Históricamente, la medicina transfusional ha
basado sus criterios de seguridad en la compatibilidad
serológica. Los métodos tradicionales de
aglutinación, tanto en tubo como en sistemas
de tipificación en tarjetas de gel, constituyen el
estándar de oro en la práctica diaria de los bancos
de sangre. Estas técnicas permiten resolver
la mayoría de los requerimientos transfusionales
ordinarios; sin embargo, exhiben limitaciones técnicas
críticas cuando se enfrentan a la variabilidad
genética de pacientes multitransfundidos o con
perfiles antigénicos complejos.
