Introducción
Durante décadas, la clasificación RhD positivo o
negativo se basó en la aglutinación serológica, lo
que permitió prácticas transfusionales seguras
y redujo la enfermedad hemolítica del feto y del
recién nacido mediante inmunoprofilaxis anti-D.
Sin embargo, la identificación de variantes de RhD
y RhCE ha demostrado que individuos con resultados
serológicos semejantes pueden presentar
riesgos inmunológicos distintos.1-3 Esta revisión
sintetiza la utilidad clínica de la genotipificación
Rh más allá de la serología.
Los genes RhD y RhCE, localizados en el cromosoma
1, comparten alta homología y originan
variantes por sustituciones puntuales, recombinación,
conversión génica, deleciones, inserciones y
alteraciones de empalme.
