RESUMEN

Las fracturas del ángulo mandibular constituyen el 45% de todas las fracturas mandibulares, sus características biomecánicas permiten el tratamiento de las fracturas de este segmento por diversos métodos; se requiere analizar el tipo de fractura y su entorno para lograr un tratamiento adecuado. Se analizaron 59 fracturas de ángulo mandibular en 55 pacientes tratados en el Servicio de Cirugía Maxilofacial del Hospital de Traumatología y Ortopedia “Lomas Verdes” tomando en cuenta la morfología de la fractura, la inclusión de terceros molares y las indicaciones para retirarlos, determinando así el tipo de osteosíntesis a utilizar. Se realizó osteosíntesis con placas y tornillos de 2.0 y 2.4 mm; todas las fracturas consolidaron con buenos resultados cosméticos y funcionales. Se presentaron complicaciones en cuatro casos, tres por infección y uno por exposición del implante. Tomando en cuenta los resultados consideramos que los parámetros usados son adecuados para brindar un buen tratamiento a las fracturas del ángulo mandibular.
