RESUMEN

Se realizó un estudio retrospectivo de los agrandamientos no neoplásicos de glándulas salivales, en el Centro de Diagnóstico de Histopatología Bucal, Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Xochimilco, durante un periodo de 24 años (1979- 2003). De 5625 biopsias recibidas y analizadas, 461 (8.2 %) correspondieron a los agrandamientos no neoplásicos de glándulas salivales; en cada caso se documentaron los datos demográficos del paciente, así como características clínicas. Se trató de un grupo heterogéneo de entidades patológicas entre las que se incluyeron lesiones locales, obstructivas, infecciosas e inmunopatológicas. La lesión más frecuente fue el quiste de extravasación mucosa con 341 casos (74 %); el segundo y tercer lugar fueron ocupados por la sialadenitis crónica y el síndrome de Sjögren, con 54 (11.7 %) y 41 (8.9 %), respectivamente; en menor proporción se presentó el quiste de retención mucosa, la sialosis, la lesión linfoepitelial benigna y la asociada a sialolitos. El sexo femenino fue el más afectado, la edad promedio se ubicó entre la segunda y tercera décadas de la vida, y la localización más común fue la mucosa labial.
