Maternal mortality in the State of Mexico

ABSTRACT

Design: Descriptive study.
Setting: Secretaría de Salud del Estado de México.
Objective: Te most frequent causes of death and establishment of programs could contribute to decreased in maternal mortality.
Introduction: Te most frequent causes of death were Preeclampsia-Eclampsia and obstetric hemorrhage, in State of Mexico, the rate of maternal mortality is very high compared to the rest of the country and health public problem. The establishments of programs according to this public hospital experience.
Material and methods: We reviewed the maternal deaths caused, registered and analyzed at the Maternal Mortality Committees, associated factors that contributed to death, and their preventability. These results suggest that a critical care medicine cause may improve the quality of care of obstetric patients at public hospital in Toluca City.
Results: The rate mortality 2000 year per 100,000 live births of 62.2 in our country, this is high maternal mortality. The highest rates observed were in the entities of Naucalpan, Ecatepec and Netzahualcóyotl, of young women and pregnancy hypertension, obstetric hemorrhage. A decrease of mortality rate was observed if 13.4% to 3.8% at critical care obstetric unit.
Conclusion: In this paper we reviewed and selected updated medical criteria and procedures for the management obstetric patient with the objective of having standardized guidelines, blood bank, Maternal Mortality Committees, among another factors, the low educational level of the population in using the medical service opportunely.
