ABSTRACT

Introduction: gastric volvulus is defined as an abnormal rotation of the stomach greater than 180o on its own axis and is a very rare pathology. The case presented here illustrates the high index of suspicion required for timely diagnosis and describes one of the possible ways to treat it laparoscopically. Case presentation: a 49-year-old female with a month of evolution of epigastric abdominal pain radiating to the chest and in the right hemibelt, who presented sudden high-intensity pain in the epigastric region, nausea and vomiting. The diagnosis of gastric volvulus was established based on the tomographic findings and it was resolved by means of hiatal plasty and anterior laparoscopic gastropexy with good results. Conclusion: there is no current consensus for the surgical treatment of gastric volvulus, but this case shows that laparoscopic resolution with hiatal plasty and anterior gastropexy is an option that can offer good results.
