ABSTRACT
The antibiotic prophylactic regimen given for preventing bacterial endocarditis is a common activity in dentistry. In spite of the disease is not frequently, the mortality is still high and its association with dental invasive procedures is well known, so the responsibility of the practitioner must be enhanced to prevention.
This workshop will discuss the factors that must be considered to decide if the prophylactic regimen is given or not. These factors are the individual susceptibility to develop endocarditis, the type of dental procedures and the regimens recommended by The American Heart Association, with the sponsor of the American Dental Association.
