ABSTRACT

A common complication in oral surgery and maxillofacial is the fracture of instruments or material within the oral region, objects such as anesthetic needles, rotating instruments, scalpel blades, needles of suture material, elevators, implants. This is a problem that can be exacerbated when dental units (DU) are accidentally displaced into adjacent anatomical spaces during extraction attempt. This topic has been discussed with infrequent in recent literature; however, it is a problem within our practice. The recuperation can be slow and difficult, depending on numerous factors, such as size, location, the shape of the displaced tooth and the anatomical structures neighbors. A case of displacement is presented and extraction of a displaced upper third molar accidentally into the pterygomaxillary space.
