ABSTRACT

Introduction: intraosseous schwannoma or neurilemmoma, is a benign neoplasm originating from Schwann cells, commonly located in soft tissues. Objective: to report a case of an atypical location schwannoma. Clinical case: we report an intraosseous schwannoma affecting the proximal metaphysis of the right tibia in a 35-year-old woman. Its radiological characteristics showed a lesion with a geographical, expansive, osteolytic pattern with well-defined edges. An anterolateral approach and intracompartmental resection (curettage) with polymethylmethacrylate were performed. Histologically, the diagnosis of classic intraosseous schwannoma was confirmed. Conclusion: intraosseous schwannomas should be included in the differential diagnosis of fibrous dysplasia, giant cell tumor, aneurysmal bone cyst, and chondroblastoma.
