ABSTRACT
Ventricular septal defect of the traumatic type due to penetrating injury is a rare entity and requires a high suspicion for its diagnosis. We present the case of a patient who presented a defect of the interventricular septum secondary to stab wound but that was initially handled in a second level hospital by hemoneumotorax and coagulated hemotorax. Later, this entity was detected, being referred to our hospital where late repair was performed in a successful way.
