ABSTRACT
Objective. The aim of this study is to provide the experience
of 8 years in a tertiary hospital, in patients who
underwent a previous cardiac surgery, which require a
second surgery focusing same on second valve reoperations.
Methods. Observational, retrospective, descriptive and
cross simple study. The selection of the sample was not
probabilistic convenience sampling during the period
June 2008 to April 2015, in which 55 complete files were
included. The patients with heart disease who had a previous
heart valve surgery. Study variables: age, gender,
surgical approaches, aortic clamp time, cardiopulmonary
bypass time, type of previous prostheses and prosthetic
placed.
Results. A total of 55 patients who underwent heart valve
surgery in the period from June 2008 to April 2015. Corresponding
20 male and 35 females, 36.4% and 63.6%
respectively were included, average age 50.1 years, minimum
29, maximum 73. The total ischemia time averaged
99 minutes, minimum 22 minutes, maximum 200 minutes;
cardiopulmonary bypass time was 143.4 minutes
on average, at least 48 minutes max 405 minutes. The approach
used in all patients was sternotomy, all patients
had prior sternotomy. The position of the prosthesis to
which they procedure was performed; 20 mitral, 24 aortic
position, 7 mitro-aortic, 3 tricuspid position and one
pulmonary.
Conclusions. The indication of a repetitive valve reoperation
should be assessed individually given the high risk
associated with surgery. Cardiac surgery reoperation,
although plaintiff in time and technically. It can be performed
with good results in specialized tertiary centers,
comparable to other published series.
