ABSTRACT

Avulsion fracture of the anterior tibial tuberosity (TAT) is a rare lesion, with an incidence that varies between 0.4 and 2.5% of all epiphyseal lesions, described in 1853 and 1898 by De Morgan and Poland, respectively. It is characterized by the traumatic separation of the physis in the deep plane to the ossification nucleus of the TAT. It occurs in male adolescents who engage in physical activity due to the violent contraction of the quadriceps. Initially associated with Osgood Schlatter disease, they are considered separate diseases, noting that developmental orthopedic diseases (DOD) predispose to avulsion.
