ABSTRACT

The pyramidal or piriformis syndrome is a little-known entity that is suspected in patients with chronic pain in the path of the sciatic nerve with or without irradiation to the lower limbs or lumbar region. It can be related to alterations of the piriformis muscle with compression of the sciatic nerve. It has various origins, from anatomical alterations and their variants to those secondary to physical activity and trauma. Magnetic resonance allows the visualization of the sciatic nerve and adjacent structures through various techniques with fine cuts and/or high-definition neurographic sequences, which favors an adequate assessment.
