ABSTRACT

The colonization of the gut microbiota in newborns is a complex process influenced by multiple factors, including gestational age, mode of delivery, feeding patterns, and medical interventions. Preterm newborns (PTNB) with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) experience delayed colonization by commensal bacteria and an increased prevalence of pathogenic bacteria. Nutritional interventions may offer a potential approach to restore microbial balance and promote optimal gut health in PTNB with IUGR.
