ABSTRACT

Introduction: diabetes mellitus poses a significant challenge in public health, demanding constant concern and an ongoing pursuit of scientific advancements from the medical community. Objective: to assess the impact of depressive symptoms on treatment adherence in patients with type 2 diabetes. Material and methods: a thorough search for published information was conducted in the ScienceDirect, PubMed, SciELO, and Google Scholar databases. Results: initially, 98 articles were found, and 79 were eliminated, leaving 19 studies that met the search criteria. Of the 19 selected articles, 12 provided research findings, and seven were considered for theoretical and conceptual aspects of the study's purpose. Conclusion: this publication is essential for improving our understanding of non-adherence to treatment in diabetic patients. Strategies that incorporate nutritional and psychological support, along with medical endocrinology services, are crucial. Physicians should also focus on the mental and physical well-being of the patient to enhance their quality of life.
