Losses and coping strategies in dentistry students according to academic performance.

ABSTRACT
Introduction: loss is a lack or deprivation of what one had, favors an affectation in various areas, each individual has ways of dealing with them. Objective: determine types of losses and coping strategies in students of the Academic Unit of Dentistry (UAO), Autonomous University of Zacatecas (UAZ), according to academic performance during January-June 2020. Material and methods: an observational-descriptive-cross-sectional study was carried out in students with clinical practice in the multidisciplinary clinic of Zacatecas (CLIMUZAC), including 127 students. A self-made questionnaire was applied. The data were processed in SPSS v.22. Results: 63.7% were women, the most recurrent loss was death of a loved one (38.6%), dating (34.6%), change of residence (21.3%). Coping strategies: 97.6% support network, 54.3% physical activity or sport and 52.0% therapeutic help. 96.06% had regular academic performance, 37.8% who had lost a loved one presented regular performance. With statistical significance between therapeutic help with courtship and forced disappearance. Conclusions: the most frequent losses were due to a loved one and courtship. The main coping strategies: support network and physical activity. The impact on academic performance due to losses was less than expected.REFERENCES
