Primary high-grade osteosarcoma in the early childhood

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Bone tumors represent approximately 8.2% of childhood neoplasms, with an average presentation at 16 years of age, although it can also affect children under 5 years of age in whom a different behavior has been observed. Objective: To describe the case of a preschooler with osteoblastic osteosarcoma as well as the implications in this age group. Case presentation: A 3-year-old male with humerus osteosarcoma required neoadjuvant as well as amputation, progressing to metastatic disease. Conclusion: Osteosarcoma in preschoolers is uncommon, more studies are required to achieve a better clinical characterization.
