ABSTRACT

Introduction: The university requires professors who know how to teach what the society needs; their continuous updating is essential with respects to the subject that they teach and how they teach it. Most medical science professors do not graduate from pedagogical majors and take up teaching —including occupational health— with a fundamentally self-taught and basic pedagogical preparation; hence the need to promote institutionalized teaching professionalization in order to consolidate their knowledge in this respect. Objective: To describe the results of a pedagogical professional training sponsored by Julio Trigo López School of Medical Sciences in the period from September, 2021 to June, 2022. Method: A descriptive study was carried out, which involved a docu-mental review of judgements and final reports of the accredited activities implemented with professors. Results: Twenty-four activities were accredited (twenty for the munici-pal level and four corresponding to the provincial level), nine courses, fourteen workshops and one training course. Nineteen activities (four corresponding to the provincial level and fifteen for the municipal level), seven courses, eleven workshops and the training course were given. 61.7 % of the graduates from the municipal activities and 66.7 % of the graduates from the provincial activities belong to the health sector; 100 % of the assistant and instructor professors from the National Institute of Workers' Health were trained and so were 84.6 % of their own profes-sors from the health sector themselves. Conclusions: An significant number of activities of pedagogical profes-sional improvement were accredited and taught, with a predominance of municipal workshops and graduates from the health sector; most of the teaching staff from the aforementioned Institute participated. This shows the professors' commitment to teaching at the level required by national and international contemporary times.
