ABSTRACT

Objective. To estimate trends in exclusive tobacco use, e-cigarette use, and dual use in the Mexican population between 2018 and 2023. Materials and methods. We used the Ensanut 2018-2023 to estimate trends in exclusive tobacco use, e-cigarette use, and dual use among the Mexican population aged 15 years and older. Results. Between 2018 and 2023, exclusive tobacco use in women increased from 8.4 to 10%. In the 15 to 19 age group, the exclusive tobacco use decreased from 9.8 to 5%, while exclusive e-cigarette use increased from 1.3 to 6.6%. Dual use by sex and age groups remained unchanged. Conclusions. Tobacco and e-cigarette use have evolved distinctly among vulnerable populations: adolescents and women. It is essential to fully comply with the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) by addressing and countering interference from the tobacco industry.
