ABSTRACT

Objective: To provide an updated overview of systemic lupus erythematosus with a focus on obstetric syndromes associated with the disease.
Methodology: A search was conducted in Scopus, PubMed, and Web of Science databases using the following terms: systemic lupus erythematosus, pregnancy, obstetric syndromes, pregnancy complications, pregnancy management in patients with lupus, maternal and fetal outcomes. Original articles, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses published in English or Spanish within the last 10 years were included.
Results: : Twenty-four articles met the inclusion criteria. Two independent reviewers selected articles that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. In the event of disagreement, a third reviewer discussed the results to reach a consensus. The following data were extracted from the selected articles: title and authors, year of publication, type of study, population studied, and main results, for information synthesis and writing.
Conclusions: The close relationship between Systemic lupus erythematosus and obstetric syndromes is highlighted, as well as its general context mediated by inflammation.
