ABSTRACT

Objective: To assess the concordance between body mass index and relative fat mass index (RFM) and their correlation with fasting glucose levels and insulin resistance compared to the triglyceride-glucose index in healthcare workers.
Materials and Methods: An observational, cross-sectional, and retrospective study was conducted in healthcare workers. body mass index, relative fat mass index, and triglycerides-glucose index were calculated. Insulin resistance was determined using specific cut-off points. Pearson and Spearman correlation analyses were performed, along with ROC curves to establish relative fat mass index cut-off points.
Resultados: There were included 297 subjects. The area under the curve for relative fat mass index was 0.62 in men and 0.73 in women. Cut-off points were 26 for men (sensitivity: 88%, specificity: 46%) and 39 for women (sensitivity: 78%, specificity: 65%). A significant correlation (p ‹ 0.01) was found between body mass index, relative fat mass index, and triglycerides-glucose index, with an OR of 4.39 (95% CI: 2.34-8.22).
Conclusions: Relative fat mass index showed moderate concordance with body mass index and a significant association with insulin resistance measured by triglycerides- glucose index, highlighting its usefulness as a complementary diagnostic tool.
