ABSTRACT

Introduction: skin and soft tissue infections have become a health problem, including in the neonatal population. The objective of this case is to describe the clinical presentation and treatment used in a newborn with necrotizing skin infection. Case presentation: an 18-day-old female patient with skin lesions on the right gluteal region, diagnosed as necrotizing cellulitis. Antimicrobial treatment was provided with a triple regimen, in addition to local therapy. The patient recovered satisfactorily, without requiring surgery. Conclusions: necrotizing cellulitis is a potentially serious clinical condition in newborns, which may present in isolation or associated with severe sepsis. Early treatment is essential, and surgical intervention may be required to debride necrotic tissue.
