MD. José Alberto Borges López and his strong link with Cuban legal medicine

ABSTRACT

Background: the life stories of outstanding personalities, such as health professionals, constitute an urgent need today in order to enrich the history of public health in which MD. José Alberto Borges López plays a determining role, as a medical examiner. .
Objective: Show the medical professionalism of MD. José Alberto Borges López and his strong link with Cuban legal medicine.
Methods: a documentary investigation was carried out at "Arnaldo Milián Castro" University Hospital of Villa Clara in 2023, in which theoretical methods were used: analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive and historical-logical; and empirical ones : documentary analysis through the review of historical materials, including: the doctor's work and teaching records, his autobiography, academic and scientific certificates, diplomas and recognitions, published articles, interviews with him and other relevant figures in Villa Clara contemporary medicine; all considered reliable sources of information.
Results: the fundamental elements of the aforementioned doctor's career as a teacher, his healthcare and scientific activity, as an international collaborator and manager are highlighted; and his values and principles as a human being, which shows that he is an indisputable reference in the training of health professionals.
Conclusions: the medical examiner accumulates a vast wealth of knowledge. His life and work have always been at the service of the Revolution and his legacy transcends to make him a model of medicine in Cuba.
