ABSTRACT

Background: facilitating the integration of basic biomedical science content by students is a complex area, rarely addressed in its natural process and with limited treatment in Dentistry.
Objective: to develop a didactic model for the integration of basic biomedical sciences based on the teaching-learning process in the Biological Basis of Dentistry discipline.
Methods: a qualitative research study was carried out at the Faculty of Dentistry of Camagüey from 2022 to 2023. Theoretical methods were used: historical-logical, analytical-synthetic, and inductive-deductive; and documentary analysis was used as an empirical method. The structural-functional systemic method allowed for the support of the systemic nature of the model and its modeling, and for its construction based on its distinctive features and relationships. The expert criteria method allowed for theoretical assessment in terms of relevance and applicability, and the Kendall concordance test determined the agreement of criteria among experts.
Results: the teaching model was comprised of three subsystems that constitute the following processes: projection of physiomorphological integration, management of integrative learning of basic biomedical sciences, and implementation of physiomorphological integration as an internal process. The resulting synergy of these relationships determines the quality of appropriation of physiomorphological knowledge integrated by students in the Dentistry program. (Kendall W. 0.901).
Conclusions: a teaching model for the integration of basic biomedical sciences in the Dentistry program was developed. This model provides a solid theoretical foundation for the integration of content as a process and allows for its practical implementation in the teaching-learning process of basic biomedical sciences.
