ABSTRACT
The frenum is a fold of fibrous tissue, muscular or both, covered with oral mucosa responsible for keeping the mucosa of the cheeks, tongue and lips, the alveolar bone, the gum and the periosteum fixed. The lingual frenulum in some cases usually has a short insertion that can cause problems in the pediatric patient due to the important role that the tongue plays in the proper functioning and development of the stomatognathic system; this condition is known as ankyloglossia which means anchored tongue, so the tongue has difficulty moving. Frenotomy is a surgical technique that is used to release the lingual frenum; it is an effective, simple and safe treatment. The use of laser has gained popularity in soft tissue surgeries due to its multiple benefits such as: shorter operating time, bleeding control and hemostasis, in addition to not requiring sutures and minimizing pain and inflammation. The purpose of this article is to show a series of clinical cases in which diode laser frenotomies were performed and where satisfactory functional results were obtained with less stress on patients.
