ABSTRACT

In this article, we describe the management of a patient with an unknown temporomandibular injury who required awake intubation. Due to the significant limitation in oral mobility and mouth opening, as well as the uncertain etiology of the lesion and the risk of dissemination, a safe approach was chosen. Mycetoma is a severe, chronic cutaneous infection with a granulomatous appearance, which is difficult to diagnose, especially in this region of the human body. Its rigid characteristics cause limitation of joint movements, anatomical alterations, pain, and an increased risk during airway management.
