ABSTRACT

In Mexico, the professional practice of oral surgeons is defined by various laws, regulations, and official Mexican standards that establish clinical procedures as well as their legal limitations. However, there is a very blurred line in the precise delimitation of the surgical procedures that may be performed by these specialists, which can create confusion among healthcare professionals, educational institutions, and health authorities. This regulatory ambiguity may also lead to legal issues, interprofessional conflicts, and risks for patients, especially when the oral surgeon performs interventions that could also fall under the scope of other dental specialties, such as maxillofacial surgery and periodontal surgery.
