ABSTRACT
Several ranges exist to stratify thrombosis risk; however, none are specifically designed for aesthetic surgery patients; therefore, basing prophylaxis on the risk levels indicated by these models is often ineffective and, in many cases, counterproductive. The objective of this work is to justify a scale called APPERT, which has already been validated and published. It is composed of thrombogenic factors that occur in aesthetic surgery procedures. This scale is highly sensitive and specific; it is very useful for stratifying thrombosis risk in patients undergoing aesthetic surgery and for decision-making regarding antithrombotic prophylactic care. To simplify its use, we created a free electronic scoring system, accessible in two versions: a web-based version and a mobile application. Information obtained from each user is stored in a database and used to revalidate the scale and make it more effective and straight forward. Prophylactic recommendations according to risk level were added to the electronic score, based on principles issued by the ACCP (American College of Chest Physicians) and ASH (American Society of Hematology); which is why the prophylactic recommendations are solid. We conclude that the APPERT scale is useful for stratifying thrombosis risk in aesthetic surgery patients and for justifying antithrombotic prophylaxis.
