ABSTRACT

Introduction: buccosinusal communications (CBS) are a common complication following dental extractions. They represent a connection between the maxillary sinus and the oral cavity that, if untreated, may develop into a buccosinusal fistula (FBS). Advancement flaps are first-line surgical option, but large defects or those involving multiple alveolar walls can be effectively closed with the Bichat adipose pad (BAB). We present a concise literature review and a clinical case of FBS secondary to chemical osteomyelitis that was successfully treated with BAB. Objective: describe surgical management of FBS using BAB. Material and methods: literature review and case report. Results: BAB provided stable closure without complications. Conclusion: BAB is a safe, cost effective alternative when vestibular or palatal flaps fail.
