ABSTRACT

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is vital for masticatory, phonatory, and respiratory functions. TMJ ankylosis, characterized by the fusion between the mandible and the glenoid cavity, limits patients' quality of life and presents significant challenges in clinical practice. This case report describes a 43-year-old patient who developed bilateral ankylosis following a condylar fracture in childhood and underwent multiple unsuccessful surgical procedures. The patient experienced difficulties in mouth opening, oral hygiene, and exhibited apnea. After various surgical interventions, custom prostheses were planned for the patient's rehabilitation. It is also reported a postoperative complication involving dislocation of the condylar prosthetic component and its resolution. This case report highlights the importance of meticulous surgical planning.
