ABSTRACT

Introduction: prostate cancer is the second most common neoplasm in men; Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) reduces unnecessary procedures, overdiagnoses, overtreatments and improves precision and optimization of resources. The image quality evaluated through PI-QUAL is key and is based on technical and visual criteria. Objective: to evaluate the quality of prostate MRI performed in the period 2022-2024 at the Angeles Pedregal Hospital through the PI-QUAL v2 model. Material and methods: descriptive statistics of the variables were carried out. Associations between demographic and imaging variables were analyzed with the PI-QUAL v2 score. The results were compared between 3T and 1.5T resonators. Results: 241 studies were reviewed. We scored PI-QUAL1, 2, and 3 at 1, 14 and 85%, respectively. We found a statistically significant advantage with 3T resonators, 85% of the studies obtained PI-QUIAL score 3 (p ‹ 0.001), while none of those performed with 1.5T resonators. The absence of artifacts positively correlated with a PI-QUAL score of 3. Conclusion: in our center 85% of the studies are of optimal quality PI-QUAL 3, it is also observed that the use of 3T resonators showed a clear advantage over 1.5 T resonators as it was associated with higher image quality.
