ABSTRACT

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic, systemic, inflammatory disease mediated by autoimmunity, which affects the joint synovial tissue. It can also include manifestations such as pleuritis, pulmonary restrictive processes, pericarditis, vasculitis, scleritis, glomerulonephritis, etc. During the pre-anesthetic and anesthetic assessment process we must consider: articular and extra-articular alterations, specific treatment, joint deformities, management of difficult airways and pain control. The AR and depression are disabling and negative conditions when they persist in the same individual, impacting the patient and family. The management of acute chronic pain and anesthesia in patients with rheumatoid arthritis is a challenge for health personnel.
