Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas in a pregnant patient. Case report and literature review

ABSTRACT
Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas is a rare
neoplastic entity, accounting for 1-2% of pancreatic tumors.
It is characterized by slow growth and low malignant
potential. Histologically, it displays a mixed pattern of solid,
pseudopapillary, and pseudocystic structures. Its origin
remains a subject of debate. Although its presence can be
clinically suspected, the diagnosis is established by histology
and confirmed by immunohistochemistry, demonstrating a
characteristic E-cadherin-positive phenotype. Due to the
presence of progesterone receptors, these tumors may be
influenced in their growth during periods of high progesterone
levels. We present the case of a 25-year-old female patient
who presented with abdominal pain and a large pancreatic
mass. At the time of the presentation, she had experienced
a spontaneous abortion. We review the literature on similar
cases and discuss the potential value of hormonal blockers
in these patients.
