ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate effectiveness and comfort of a new supplementation scheme for the luteal phase on patients with infertility treatment. Using ProSphere® progesterone at single dose every week. Patients and methods: In a prospective study carried out in Medica Fertil, Mexican Institute of Reproductive Medicine, were supplemented 30 patients with progesterone made on micro-spheres, who voluntary accepted with previously signed informed consent. This supplementation began within the same day of the reproductive procedure. The dose of 200 mg was repeated every week until the pregnancy was confirmed or the gestation reached 12 weeks. All doses were administered in deep intramuscular injection under our supervision. Follow up visits included clinical and vaginal ultrasound examinations. Pregnancies obtained, adverse pregnancy events and secondary events of the supplementation were studied. Results: 26.6% pregnancies were obtained and of them, vitality was confirmed on 87.5%. The greater proportion of patients (96.6%) declared comfort with this new supplementation scheme for the luteal phase. No allergy reaction was reported. Only one woman had a minimal local lesion that was secondary by the first injection. The cure of this lesion was made with local heat and anti-inflammatories. Conclusions: The new supplementation scheme for luteal phase with progesterone made on micro-spheres is effective and comfortable for the women that are on infertility treatment.
