ABSTRACT
Superficial mycosis are a frequent cause of medical consultation in the general and dermatological clinical practice. Of these, dermatophytoses are the most common ones, affecting principally the nail plate and the feet, which represent 70 to 80% of the infections in adult population. Pitiriasis versicolor constitutes 20% of the superficial mycosis. Despite of the newer topic and systemic
antifungal drugs, the incidence of some of these infections has increased. In Mexico, considering that 10% of the population is affected by some type of superficial mycosis and the high cost of the antifungal drugs, the average cost per year for the treatment of superficial mycosis is calculated in $ 40 millions of dollars.
