ABSTRACT

Introduction: Exams have been used as a decisive factor for passing or failing students based on a capacity to memorize and reach objectives in a way at separate theory from practice without fomenting criticism and reflex ion. Methods: Transverse, descriptive observational study at the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation 1 in Monterrey N.L from April to December 2006 on 16 residents. A study guide was created with six points: Diagnosis-treatment, neurophysiologic, information sources, physician-patient relationship, perception of the academic/work-place environment and a self- was reached. The validity of the content, design construction and level of sufficiency was carried out by 15 experts, until an 80% agreement level and a consensus of 100% was reached. Results were analyzed with non-parametric tests. Results: A concordance and a consensus rate of 100% was reached for the validity of the content and design construction. Clinical performance was good to moderate in 87.5% of the cases. 12.5% reached a level of significant. The academic/work-place was perceived as adequate by 75% of the students and clinical rotations were considered fruitful by 88%. Conclusions: the level of performance was considered regular to bad, sufficiency was low, the academic-work-place environment appropriate and clinical rotations fruitful.
