Isokinetic examination of the trunk in asymptomatic patients from Centro Nacional de Rehabilitación

ABSTRACT

The Isokinetic exercise is reserved for the muscular contraction that accompanies to a constant speed of angular movement. Objective. To carry out the measurements of isokinetic exercises of trunk to establish the normal values of torque and work, to effect of having reference values to compare them with patients with diverse pathologies that affect these muscular groups. Methods. The carried out study was prospective, transversal, descriptive and observational. Seventy three asymptomatic patients were included in the study divided in 2 groups: female and male; divided in 20-29 years and 30-39 years. The average of peak-torques and work for repetition to body weight at angular velocities of 60, 90 and 120°/sec were evaluated. Likewise, the angles of the dorsal-lumbar spine and hip. Results. In women significant differences were appreciated in height and Body Mass Index (BMI) among the age of 20-29 years and 30-39 years. For men there were not differences in the averages of height and BMI among the age of 20-29 years and 30-39 years and only in 5 variables there were significant differences. The total angles in flexion of the trunk in females were 117.8° and males 113.1°. Conclusions. The results of the average of peak-torques and the angles of the dorsal-lumbar spine and hip in this study don’t differ of those reported in the literature, for what we can affirm that the registered values are reference point for the evaluation in the treatment of patient with different pathologies of the dorsal-lumbar spine.
