Epidemiological news about HIV infection in the world

ABSTRACT

AIDS is an infectious illness due to the HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) transmitted by sexual via, the use of intravenous drugs, blood transfusion or by perinatal transmission. The number of infected people who acquire daily the infection has been growing. In 1986, the OMS estimated 100,000 cases of AIDS in the world and from 5 to 10 million of infected people. Investigators projected that the annual number of deaths related to AIDS would be 1.7 millions during 2006, nevertheless in 2001 there were notified 3 million people of deaths by AIDS. In 20 years more than 60 million people have been infected, half of them in between of 15 to 24 years age; just now it’s in this group of age is estimated that 11.8 million old are living with HIV; in other words: 30% of the total world population have AIDS.
