ABSTRACT

Objectives: evaluate the characteristics and impact factor of the pre and post anesthetic visit in patients scheduled to elective surgery. Material and Methods: To assess the patient's knowledge that will be sustained about the anesthetic events, fear about the procedures and the anesthetic techniques, a questionnaire was applied to the patients scheduled for elective surgery both in the pre operative period and after 24 hours in the post operative period. Results: all the patients included in the study received preanesthetic evaluation but only 3% received post anesthetic evaluation, 74% of the patients not known about the name of the attending anesthesiologists and 49% unknowns what is the anesthesiologist roll in the operating room. Conclusions: the patient's knowledge about the anesthesiologist activities is minimal, representing serious implications in the quality of medical care.
