ABSTRACT

The absenteeism is a reason of increasing interest, seen the current economic context of competitiveness, making companies to look ways to diminish its occurrence, increasing its yield, and with this, growing in a supported form. Evidenced the innumerable variables involved in the process, it was looked to analyze the absenteeism for medical and dentistry reasons, in the public and private service; analysis if age, sex and function of the worker, within the employment regimen intervene with its occurrence. It was developed in an acrylic industry and the government of the city of Araçatuba, São Paulo, Brazil. For the collection of data, all the certifications of the doctors and dentists, that were present in the companies in the period of January to June of 2002 had been analyzed and the listings of the workers. It was verified that the absence for dentistry reasons has little weight on the total of absence for illness reason, besides provoking the removal of the worker for a lesser period. The variables age, sex, function and employment regimen influenced the occurrence of the absenteeism at work. The availability of this information should be very important, seen the innumerable variables involved, they will facilitate the making of decisions for distinct strategies for its prevention.
