Tension free vaginal tape in the treatment of urinary incontinence

ABSTRACT

Antecedents: In the University of Upsala, Sweden, the Gynecologist Ulf Ulmsten publishes in 1996 the technique of the TVT. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness in the application of the vaginal tape free of tension (TVT) as surgical treatment of the incontinence feminine urinary. Material and methods: To 25 patients you applies the tape TVT with technique of Ulmsten from January 1 to December 15 2003. They were carried out of urodynamic unichanel study of preoperatory, 20 patients (80%) with incontinence urinary urodynamic of effort and five (20%) with mixed incontinence. Results: The age average was of 48 years. The IMC was of obesity in 14 cases; overweight in six; I weight normal in three and morbid obesity in two. The surgical time was of 32 min, with having bled operative of 67 ml. and with hospital stay of 48 h, on the average. The transoperatory morbidity: Two cases (8%) with bladder perforation and a urethral (4%), corroborated by cystoscopy with handling conservative. The immediate postoperative one: in three cases (12%) with sharp retention of urine and the late one in 15 patients (60%) for cystouretritis tried with analgesic-antispasmodics and in a case (4%) the tape was cut a week post-application for sharp retention of urine. The postmiccional urine residual in the postoperative one mediate it was of 92 mL in 22 cases (88%) and at the end of 35 mL. All present continence urinary to 5 years.
