ABSTRACT

Assessment began in the first half of the twentieth century, with the purpose to assess the extent to which learning experiences produce the desired results.
Tyler, one of the pioneers of educational evaluation, generated the by Evaluation by Objectives Model, it came to be a source of criticism that gave rise to several models: Evaluation Model as information for decision-making or assessment geared towards improvement, the Consumer-oriented Evaluation Model as research, among others. This showed a shift in focus from outcomes-based evaluation to one based on the process or training.
The Faculty of Medicine of the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, specifically the Course of Pediatrics, has changed the evaluation process since October 2005, from Curricular and Pedagogical Reform process; from evaluation of learning products with objective tests or exams, are evaluated, as we propose, the portfolio of evidence may not only assess but potentiate student learning, enabling them to reflect and realize what they learn and what to know need in order to achieve a good diagnosis and management of their patients.
The purpose of this communication is to present the Portfolio of Evidence as a useful tool in assessing resident learning and achievement of cognitive competence.
