ABSTRACT

Sleep is a physiological condition whose basic mechanisms and function are not completely understood. Nevertheless, its alterations are reflected during awake. Insomnia is one of the most frequent alterations of sleep and it should be considered as a symptom and from here derive a correct diagnosis and treatment. This paper describes some features of normal sleep, as well as several conditions in which insomnia occurs.
