ABSTRACT

Objective: To know the efficacy of injection snoreplasty (sclerotherapy technique) for the treatment of simple snoring related to Mallampati classification.
Patients and method: To 100 patients injection snoreplasty was done; subjects were selected by a questionnaire, with Epworth scale and questions addressed to symptoms of a probable sleep respiratory disorder. Injection snoreplasty is a technique in which some sclerosing substance is injected in the palate in order to give to it more rigidity before vibration due to air pass. In this study ethyl alcohol of 98° was chosen as a sclerosing substance. Snoreplasty technique was explained to patients and entrance and exit questionnaires were applied at 7, 15, 30 days and at 6 months.
Results: According to questionnaires there is a direct relation between types of Mallampati of patients and their results. Patients with Mallampati I or II have a better percentage of efficacy in the reduction of the snoring noise than patients with Mallampati III or IV.
Conclusion: Injection snoreplasty for the treatment of simple snoring is more effective if patient has a Mallampati classification I or II.
