ABSTRACT

Objective: Isolate and identify by means of biochemical tests that type of aerobic microbial species is on acrylic and metallic removable dentures.
Material and methods: took samples of 10 acrylic removable dentures and 10 metallic dentures, these were incubated in B.H.I isolating the microorganisms in agar: Mannitol Salt, Mitis Salivarius, Rogosa, and Sabouraud, and identifying them by means of fenol red with lactose, mannitol, ribose, sorbitol, xilose, trehalose, catalase test, nítrate reduction, Vogues Proskauer, and hemolysis.
Results: S. mutans 25%, S salivarius 25%, S. sobrinus 10%, S. milleri 10%, S. ferus 5%,S. epidermidis 25%, S. carnosus 15%, S. aureus 15%, S. lugdunensis 10% and S. shleiferi subspecies shleiferi 5%, L fructivorans 20%, L. confusus 10%, L fermentum 5%, L brevis 5%, L bavaricus 5%, L sub casei. Pseudoplantarum 5%, L murinus 5%, L plantarum 5%, C. krusei 30%, C albicans 20% and C tropicallis 10%.
Conclusions: The obtained results explain the value of the prevention in the dentistry and expose the necessity to teach and explain to patients the importance of buccal hygiene habits since when these are carried out in a correct way they diminish the danger of acquiring buccal and systemic diseases.
