ABSTRACT

We know that since the beginning of Biology as a science, it did not depend, at all, on the mathematics for its successful development, so the question arises: why would we have to use them nowadays for the understanding of the biological phenomenon? The fact that health sciences, such as Biology, did not use the mathematics in ancient times does not mean that at present times (or in the future) we could not use them. Leaving from this idea, disciplines as genetics and the ecology have achieved important successes by developing mathematical models based on differential equations. Currently, the mathematics contribute with tools and mathematical models of differential equations as a support to specific studies of research in the Health Science area. In this revision, basic notions will be taken into account regarding differential and integral calculus of a variable, basic theory about ordinary differential first degree equations and solving methods for: variable separation, homogeneous equations, exact equatio ns and integral factors. All of these with the purpose of including mathematical models in this article.
