ABSTRACT

The frequency of mesiofacial fractures has been increased in the last times. In 1901 Le Fort experimentally determined the weak points of the maxillary and classified the most frequent fractures. In 1986 Manson proposed a fourth type of Le Fort fractures. In our study there were considered 14 patients with Le Fort type fractures assisted surgically in the Hospital Central de la Cruz Roja Mexicana in a period of one year. The automobile accidents represented 57.1% (8 patients) of the cases, while 35.7% (5 patients) were due to aggression of a third party and 7.1% (a patient by work accident); 8 injured (57%) presented some grade of ethylic intoxication. The results of the surgical treatment were considered as good in 12 patients (85.7%).
