ABSTRACT

Objective: Studying the benefit of the different varieties of mammary image in the evaluation of the breast cancer and its presentation form.
Material and methods: Retrospectively digital mastographs, ultrasound, magnetic resonances and tomographies positrons emission of patients with malignant and suspicion findings of malignity, studied at the Department of Mastography of CT Scanner del Sur and confirmed histologically, in the period comprised from October 2007 to October 2008. In the group of study, patients with imaging reports whose result was BIRADS 4B, 4C and 5 were included according to the Colegio Americano de Radiologia.
Results: The irregular tumoration of spiculated contours was morphology most frequently found in our statistics (42.5%) and histological variety of infiltrating carcinoma ductal, (50%) which coincides with literature. Regarding location 85% (68 cases), it was developed in top quadrants, 11.2% (9 cases) in low quadrants and in 3.8% (3 cases) at retroareolar region.
Conclusions: For image, cancer occurrence as irregular spiculated tumoration was the most frequent with 34 cases (42.5%), followed by spiculated tumoration associated to calcifications with 13 cases (16.2%). Early detection has demonstrated mortality for breast cancer reduction when screening annual mastography is made (woman without symptoms from the age of 40). Mastography is the method of choice for breast cancer detection, where it has a bigger impact with a limited value in the diagnosis.
